Upset with the lacklustre market for tobacco, an all-party meeting of farmers on Friday decided to embark on a ‘Vijayawada Chalo’ programme to pour out their woes to Union Commerce Minister Nirmala Sitaraman on Saturday.
At a meeting convened by the AP Rythu Sangham, farmers cutting across party lines wanted the Union Minister to direct the Tobacco Board to intervene in the market.
The Board was flush with funds, having collected hefty penalties from farmers for having sown an excess area.
So, it was now incumbent on it to come to their rescue, said APRS Prakasam district president P.Venkata Rao.
