The proposed Telangana March, christened as ‘Sagara Haaram’ (garland around Hussainsagar), slated for Sunday, will witness the coming together of strange bedfellows ranging from the Communists to the saffron brigade on the same platform.
But the enthusiasm among the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) leaders appears low, at least outwardly, while the members of the Telugu Desam Telangana Forum are not too enthusiastic in rubbing shoulders with the TRS and BJP ranks, though, for the record, they have extended “complete support” to the event.
Non-committal
The TDP T-Forum members were non-committal when asked about their participation. “Nobody sought out support to the march, but we are supporting the event in the interests of the people of the region,” forum convenor Errabelli Dayakar Rao and member Motkupalli Narasimhulu said.
Nagam Janardhan Reddy of the Telangana Nagara Bheri and the Congress MPs have announced their resolve to participate in the march.
Uncertain
TRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s continuing stay in the National Capital and the uncertainty over whether he will actually join the rally is drawing criticism from other pro-Telangana parties. Mr. Rao is “sleeping in New Delhi” when the entire region is waiting with bated breath, was how the Telangana TDP Forum members summed it up.
The CPI, on its part, had decided to take out a rally from Indira Park to reach the venue, the Necklace Road in spite of the restrictions imposed by police.
Appeal to people
Political parties have issued appeal to the people to maintain utmost restraint in spite of preventive detention of dozens of leaders. “We must show to the world how the democratic rights of the Telangana people are being trampled upon,” TRS MLA Jupalli Krishna Rao said.
BJP leader Bandaru Dattatreya wondered why the Government was imposing so many restrictions including erecting barricades to block the participants from reaching the venue, the Necklace Road in spite of giving permission to the rally.
The senior leader expressed doubts whether the activists could reach the venue at all.
The BJP was in touch with the Telangana Joint Action Committee over the course of action to be adopted in the face of the restrictions.
