It’s official now. The much-awaited Tirupati Information Technology Investment Region (ITIR) will be set up in four revenue villages of Yerpedu mandal, abutting the Yerpedu-Venkatagiri highway and close to the international airport.

Minister for Information Technology Ponnala Lakshmaiah made the announcement during his visit to the incubation centre under construction at the Renigunta IT Park here on Friday. His announcement indirectly means the shelving of the Kalikiri site, the other location once considered for the project. Apart from the Union Government’s ITIR proposals for Tirupati and Visakhapatnam, which would give a boost to technology-based economy, he said that another ITIR was also being actively considered for Anantapur. He elaborated the progress achieved in the IT parks in tier-II cities like Tirupati, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Kakinada, Warangal and Karimnagar. “The abundantly-available talent, coupled with the sops offered by the State, is set to take IT to a new high”, he said. The data charges would drastically come down with the introduction of 4G services, currently planned in six cities, he said, while pointing out that the State topped in the ambitious project to provide fibre optic broadband connectivity in rural areas.

In the IT/ITES SEZ in Kurukalva village near the Renigunta airport, 67.79 acres is developed as SEZ and the remaining 80.11 acres as non-SEZ. The incubation centre spread over 5.20 acres is developed as a green building, where plug-and-play facility will be provided to the entrepreneurs and industrialists. Joint Director (IT) B.Pratap and APIIC Zonal Manager Ramana Reddy were present.

Brochure released

Mr. Lakshmaiah later released the brochure of the Tirupati Information Technology Association (TITA), a body representing forty IT companies.
