Tirumala temple kitchen to be cleaned twice a month

July 12, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:59 am IST - Tirumala:

To avoid recurrence of any kind of unfortunate incidents, the TTD management has resolved to clean the temple potu (kitchen) once in a fortnight.

A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting chaired by Tirumala-based TTD JEO K.S. Srinivasa Raju on Monday.

The temple kitchens at Tirumala are more prone to fire accidents given the abundant use of ghee that goes into making of the famous ‘laddus’ and other ‘prasadams’. The TTD on an average produces three lakh ‘laddus’ every day at the famous hill temple of Lord Venkateswara.

It was only during last month that a major fire was averted at the ‘boondi’ making kitchen situated outside the main temple complex, thanks to the timely intervention of the employees and the ‘potu’ workers.

Mr. Raju instructed Health Officer Sermista to initiate steps to cleanse the massive kitchens on full moon and new moon days.
