The members of Samaikyandhra Tirupati JAC stayed away from staging a demonstration at the SP’s Camp Office and District Police Office here on Sunday, as both the premises were fully fortified with barbed wires and a posse of police personnel.

Security was beefed up in anticipation, as the protesters had announced well in advance that they would stage a dharna to protest the shabby treatment meted out to agitators by the police in the V. Hanumantha Rao episode.

Members of various JACs extended their support at the Samaikya Andhra Parirakshana Samithi (SAPS) camp at MCT office over the arrest of the SAPS JAC leaders N. Raja Reddy and K. Balasubramanyam.

They wore black dresses and covered their mouth with black cloth as a mark of protest.

MLA B. Karunakar Reddy, Chittoor MP N. Siva Prasad and former MLAs M. Venkataramana and Chadalawada Krishnamurthy condemned the arrest.

Meanwhile, Samaikyandhra supporters under the banner of ‘APNGO Tirupati’ will be organising a ‘Maha Rally’ on Tuesday from Town Club circle to Telugu Thalli statue.

The rally is being taken out on the occasion of Seemandhra Ministers presenting their recommendations to the Antony committee.

About 20,000 people from various JACs are slated to take part, while the presence of popular Telugu singer ‘Ghazal’ Srinivas will be a star attraction.
