Former Union Minister and senior BJP leader Ale Narendra died here at a hospital on Wednesday after a prolonged illness. He was 67.

Popularly known as “Tiger Narendra,” he was the founder-president of Telangana Sadhana Samithi. He joined RSS in his early years and later jumped over to Bharatiya Jana Sangh in 1962. He served as secretary, general secretary and also as vice-president of State BJP. He was elected to the Assembly from Himayatnagar on three occasions, including the by-election in 1992.

He won on Congress ticket from Medak Lok Sabha in 1999 and again on behalf of TRS in 2004. He was made Union Minister for Rural Development in the UPA government and resigned from Union Cabinet in 2006.

Senior BJP leader Bandaru Dattatreya expressed grief over Narendra’s death and said the party lost an able leader.
