The TDP cadres seem to be unhappy with the arrangements made at the Mahanadu venue, as they gave an overwhelming ‘thumbs down’ in a feedback conducted by the party machinery.

Even the party’s national president and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu expressed his displeasure over the arrangements. In his own words, the arrangements are “far unimpressive” compared to the previous Mahanadu. A mere 69.54 per cent appreciated the choice of the venue, as against 82.1 per cent during the previous event.

A comparison

The comparative figures for the previous and current years on various indicators, as read out by Mr. Naidu, were as follows: breakfast 75.88 / 65.8, lunch 77.4 / 67.59, stage 89.3 / 79.3, cultural programmes 75 / 67, enrolment drive 81 / 71, transport 76 / 70, accommodation 79 / 63, internal roads 74 / 73, toilets and hygiene 74 / 59, blood donation camp 63 / 74, photo exhibition 86 / 79, stage decoration 89 / 74, and volunteer help 68 / 69.

A visibly upset Mr. Naidu instructed the organisers to take the feedback seriously and work to the satisfaction of every party member.

Indicating that he would never tolerate complacency, he said that only concrete action, as corroborated by solid figures, could please him, and not the organisers’ frequent appearance before him.

Though not in the survey, he personally faulted the audio system that let him down many a time. “I don’t need a survey to tell about this,” he remarked, pointing to the microphone in his hand.

Loud murmurs rent the air after the party chose Sri Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Municipal Corporation High School as the venue for its conclave, which is in a crammed locality and in the midst of three major hospitals.

Though there were suggestions to hold it in Shilparamam (Urban Haat) or Veterinary University campus, they were vetoed by the local committee on the ground that they fell under the neighbouring Chandragiri constituency and technically not Tirupati.

Sentiment also had a role, as the organisers cite that it lost power after holding the 2003 Mahanadu in Shilparamam.
