‘As per UNESCO study, Telugu is facing the danger of becoming a dying language’

August 25, 2016 07:44 am | Updated 10:00 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

Calling for promotion of Telugu language and stopping it from becoming extinct, founder-president of Paravasthu Padya Peetham Parvastu Phanisayana Suri has announced that he would stage a three-day fast from Monday.

Referring to the UNESCO study, which said that Telugu language was facing the danger of becoming a dying language, Mr. Suri wanted the government to take immediate steps to protect and promote the language.

He would stage a three-day fast from the birth anniversary of Telugu linguist and litterateur Gidugu Ramamurthy Pantulu on Monday to create awareness on the seriousness of the issue.

Signature campaign

A group of Telugu lovers – Telugu Dandu – would simultaneously start a signature campaign to promote the language, he said.

He suggested all Telugu-speaking persons to exclusively use Telugu at least for one day in a week and also use Telugu in their food-related conversation. The fast would be staged at Gandhi statue opposite GVMC main office.
