Three school children meet watery grave

February 15, 2014 11:04 am | Updated May 18, 2016 08:25 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Three students of Siva Sivani school at Petbasheerabad, who were missing after leaving for school on Thursday, were found dead in a pond in the same area on Friday.

Nikhil, 14, of Class VIII, Sravan, 15, and Indrajit,14, both of Class VII, left for school on Thursday morning. But, they failed to reach the school. Parents of the students -- living in and around Petbasheerabad -- began inquiring with the school, relatives and friends but couldn’t find their wards till late on Thursday night.

They approached the Petbasheerabad police on Friday morning. While searching the locality, the police found clothes, bags and footwear of the students on the edge of a pond near an abandoned real estate venture .

Small ponds formed there due to quarrying of the hillocks. Some ponds were as deep as 60 feet. “No one saw the three students entering the pond. But we suspect they entered the pond for a swim,” Petbasheerabad Inspector B. Janaiah said.

The police believe that the students went to the pond for fun and lost their lives after slipping into deep waters. The bodies were retrieved with the help of locals.
