Three persons died and 10 others were injured when a fire broke out in a steel unit following a boiler blast in Shadnagar in the district on Wednesday morning. The unit reportedly had a workforce of around 200 per shift.

The labourers were at work when a boiler used to recycle steel scrap blew up all of a sudden, leading to a fire at the unit of Steam Core Ispats Private Limited which makes steel rods, located in the industrial area of this highway town.

The boiler reportedly contained molten steel which is moulded into rods.

Soon after the mishap, the employees rushed the injured in company vehicles to hospitals, including the one at DRDL, Owaisi Hospital and Osmania General Hospital in Hyderabad.

The three who succumbed to injuries as they were undergoing treatment were identified as Beechulal (27), Malkam Singh (30) and Kapoor Khak (30).

Those injured include K.K. Singh, Ravi Singh, Vinay, Jeevan, Rafeeq, Judhan, K. Khapar Khan and Mohd. Saddam. Two of the injured are yet to be identified.

The victims hailed from Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, said Shadnagar SI Satyanarayana.

The condition of nine of the injured was said to serious as they had suffered 80 per cent burns.

Shadnagar Circle Inspector of Police B. Naveen Reddy said attempts to reach the management of the factory had failed.

He said those concerned were ‘absconding’, scared and shocked over the developments.

“We are busy with other logistic issues such as contacting the relatives of the deceased/injured, arranging for vehicles and the like. We may be able to know more about how the accident occurred in a day or two,” he said.
