Three persons died and nine others injured when an autorickshaw dashed against a stationary mini-lorry at Singarayakonda on the Chennai-Kolkata highway in Prakasam District in the wee hours of Wednesday.

While two persons died on the spot, the third person died while getting treated at a corporate hospital here, Singarayakonda Circle Inspector M. Bheema Naik said.

Seven of the injured were admitted to the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) here, while the others rushed to a private hospital, the police officer said, adding that the condition of three of the injured was serious.

The autorickshaw was carrying workers from Chakicherla, near Ulavapadu to a sea-food firm near Jarugumalli, while the mini-lorry was proceeding to Cumbum when the mishap occurred.
