In a heart-rending incident, three children were crushed and another was seriously injured when a newly-constructed wall and an iron gate collapsed here on Thursday.

While six-year-old Navadeep died on the spot, two other boys, Premchand(5) and Mani(7), succumbed to their injuries at the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences(RIMS) in the city, Ongole Taluka circle inspector G.Venkateswarlu said.

One critical

Premchand’s sister Premjyothi(9), who was seriously injured, was first admitted to RIMS and shifted from there to a private hospital for better treatment, he said.

The children were playing by pushing the newly-installed gate back and forth in the Kotha Donka area and, as a result, the gate and wall came down on them, Mr. Venkateshwarlu added.
