‘Those behind Thullur arson should be punished severely’

January 04, 2015 10:20 pm | Updated 10:20 pm IST - VIJAYAWADA:

Union Urban Development Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu on Sunday called for stringent punishment to those responsible for setting ablaze banana plantations and farm equipments in six villages in Thullur and Tadepalli mandals of Guntur district, constituting the capital region.

Mr. Naidu said it was unfortunate that a few people were trying to create hurdles in the development of capital. “The government should identify the culprits behind the arson and punish them severely,” he said.

Referring to capital construction, Mr. Naidu suggested to the State government to expedite the process and complete construction of the capital city in next two to three years. The government was expected to create confidence among people, particularly farmers, regarding land acquisition.

“Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is a dynamic leader. I am confident that the government will achieve it under his leadership,” he said.
