The ACB on Wednesday launched a thorough probe into the multi-crore disproportionate assets case of Karadu Narasimha Reddy, an office attender at the RTO office here.
Mr. Reddy’s is a rags-to-riches story but he preferred to maintain a seemingly low-profile middle class lifestyle all through his 34 years of his career at a single place.
He always came to office by scooter and never displayed any hint of having so much wealth enough to lead a luxurious life.
During searches in the past two days, the ACB officials discovered a huge amount of gold and silver ornaments Mr. Reddy had in his home both for the use of his wife and daughter and also for the purpose of worship.
‘Non-controversial’
Another interesting facet of Mr. Reddy’s lifestyle is that he was so sentimentally attached to Nellore town from the beginning that he used all his influence with leaders, political parties and senior officials to continue here without a single transfer.
He chose to forgo promotions. For this, he remained non-controversial in his dealings whether legal or illegal and took care not to get others’ attention for good or bad.
The ACB officials said he seemed to have invested all his ill-gotten money in house plots, agricultural land and gold jewellery.
He chose to live in the same small house constructed in nearly 175 sq yards near Gandhibomma Centre in the heart of the city. Nearly 4.5 kg gold jewellery and 10 kg silver ornaments including idols and ‘harati plate’ were found. He had no special craze for furniture.
Mr. Reddy’s only daughter is married and lives in America. When officials asked him why he acquired so much gold, Mr. Reddy said it was for his wife.
Till now, the officials found documents showing that Mr. Reddy’s family had got 18 house plots, over 50.36 acres of agriculture land in costly locations near Nellore and so on.
Cash ₹7.70 lakh in denominations of ₹500, 200, 100 and ₹50 was also seized. Another ₹20 lakh was found in various bank accounts belonging to Mr. Reddy and his wife.
