The five-day annual ‘Teppotsavam’ (Float festival) on Sunday took off to colourful start at the famous hill temple of Lord Venkateswara. The processional deities of Lord Rama, Lakshmana, Sita and Hanuman were taken out in a grand procession to the venue — the temple tank (SV Pushkarini) which was traditionally spruced up for the mega event.

Later, the deities were placed upon the resplendent flotilla in all its glory was dragged in the tank waters amid great religious fervour.

The air was charged with the chanting of hymns by Vedic pundits while the temple musicians dulcetly played with the wind and percussion instruments. Devotees witnessed the colourful festival which lasted for more than an hour. The temple administration dispensed with the conduct of ‘Sahasra deepalankara seva’ on all the days of the festival period.
