Tension prevailed for a brief while in Kuppam town on Friday evening, when the cadres of the ruling TDP and the YSR Congress clashed with each other, after the former burnt the effigy of Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy at the YSR Statue Junction.

Protesting against Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy's remarks against Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu during election campaign in Nandyal on Thursday, the TDP cadres burnt Mr Jagan's effigy. Reacting to this, the YSRC cadres rushed to the spot, and entered into a heated arguments with the TDP cadres.

The atmosphere became charged in a few minutes, resulting in each other engaged in fisticuffs followed by verbal abuse. As the situation seemed to turn serious, Kuppam Circle-Inspector M. Rajasekhar rushed to the scene and the police force prevented the YSRC cadres from burning the Chief Minister’s effigy.

Alleging bias by the police, the YSRC cadres resorted to a demonstration near bus station.

The police took them into custody and shifted them to local police station.

A police picket was arranged in Kuppam to prevent any untoward turn of events.
