According to reports reaching here, Venkatesh and his family were on a pilgrimage to Srisailam and Mahanandi after visiting Hyderabad. The Toyoto Qualis van in which they were travelling was on its way to Mahanandi on Tuesday noon when it collided head-on with a lorry coming from the opposite direction near Avulapenta after crossing the YSR Memorial.

Seven persons perished on the spot and three others on the way to hospital at Atmakur. The deceased were identified as Venkatesh (62), Nagaraju (42), Kumar (55), Renuka (35), Prema (38), Hamsa (18), Pallavi (14), Chandana (10), Navya (17) and Ramu (30).
