Telugu Desam Party petitions Bhanwarlal

The Telugu Desam Party has expressed concern over deletion of names of eligible voters, the sympathisers of Opposition parties in particular, from the electoral rolls on the pretext of bogus voters in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation limits.

The ruling Telangana Rashtra Samiti is allegedly ensuring removal of the names of supporters of the Opposition parties for political gains in the upcoming elections to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.

“The TRS is making sure that the names of TDP supporters and sympathisers in the GHMC area are removed. Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao is using GHMC commissioner Somesh Kumar for undemocratically removing the names,” TTDP president L. Ramana alleged.

Mr. Ramana led a delegation of the Telangana TDP senior leaders and legislators to submit a memorandum to Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwarlal in this regard.

He alleged that the ruling party had succeeded in removing 17 lakh names so far in the name of door lock status, address change and other excuses. As many as 1.38 lakh names had been removed in LB Nagar constituency and another 1.31 lakh names in Sanatnagar constituency so far.

The official machinery is supporting the ruling party leaders in ensuring that the names are removed. This is evident from the review meetings being convened by Mr. Somesh Kumar in spite of the fact that he is not an election officer. “Mr. Somesh Kumar is acting as a TRS worker rather than an officer governing the corporation’s affairs,” he complained.

The TTDP had appealed to the election authority to ensure that the removed names are restored in the electoral rolls and stringent action is initiated against the officials concerned responsible for the removal of the votes.
