Eminent personalities from all walks of life and from different regions of the State appealed to the students and youth of Telangana not to commit suicide for furthering the movement for a separate State and also urged the Central government not to delay a decision on the issue.
Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, former judge of the Supreme Court Justice B. Sudershan Reddy, Chancellor of the University of Hyderabad Ch. Hanumantha Rao, former Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court Justice A. Lakshman Rao, former DGP P. Ramulu, senior nephrologist A. Gopala Kishan, senior consultant psychiatrist Majid Khan and MLC Chukka Ramaiah, former IT Advisor to AP Government T. Hanuman Chowdary, among others, said that suicide by even a single youngster is a great social tragedy.
“The mark of true courage, and of a correct moral compass to touch the conscience of the people of this great nation, is to relentlessly fight for the political rights of the people of Telangana. Suicide by a youngster is an abandonment of that fight, it reduces the strength of the movement,” they said in their appeal.
Youth are driven to commit suicide as they do not see any hope of achieving a separate State of Telangana and with their action they impact the lives of thousands of people, senior consultant psychiatrist Dr. Majid Khan said.
The statement was also signed by former judges of the AP High Court Justice Upendralal Waghray and Justice Sardar Ali Khan, founder director of CCMB P.M. Bhargava, ex-NIMS Directors Kakarla Subba Rao and Dr. Prasada Rao, chairman CARE Hospitals Dr. B. Somaraju, Lt General (retd) A.R.K. Reddy, former chief secretary Narendra Luther and senior journalist Potturi Venkateswara Rao.
