Congress MP V. Hanumantha Rao has taken serious exception to Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy’s reported recommendation to the Core Committee to give a special financial package for Telangana.

“It is unfortunate that the Chief Minister has made such a presentation when a decision on the statehood issue has almost been taken. It is better for him to seek a special package for Seemandhra region instead of asking one for Telangana,” he said at a press conference here on Monday.

“Let the Seemandhra people take the special package and build a wonderful capital for themselves. We will strongly recommend a package for the region,” he said.

Mr. Rao was miffed by the statement made by the Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal that the Congress party has a good batsman, who would steer it successfully during the next general elections. “If that is true, let Mr. Rajagopal reveal the name, we will also get a good bowler to face him,” he said.

The Rajya Sabha member said if a separate State was created only family members of TRS chief K. Chandrasekhara Rao would be left in that party.
