Telangana fallout: Vizianagaram curfew continues, 34 held

Curfew remained in force in Vizianagaram town on Monday with security forces patrolling troubled areas in the wake of large-scale violence by anti-bifurcation agitators.

Police have so far arrested 34 persons in connection with the violence and more arrests are expected to follow, DIG (Visakhapatnam Range) P Umapathi told PTI .

“The situation is under control and peaceful. It (curfew) is continuing. We will again study the situation and take appropriate action,” he said.

The priority as of now is to maintain law and order and protect the public and private properties, the DIG said, adding that curfew will be in force till normalcy is restored in the town.

Central paramilitary and state police personnel are patrolling Kanyakaparameswari temple junction, Kothapeta, Dasannapeta, Gajularega, BC Colony, V K Agraharam and other parts as a precautionary measure to prevent any untoward incident.

Despite the prohibitory orders, united Andhra Pradesh supporters hit the streets and pelted police with stones, forcing the security personnel to fire two rounds in air to quell mobs.
