Bureaucrats, particularly those working in the Secretariat, are in a quandary following the reported decision of the Congress high command to bifurcate the State.
Senior IAS officers and heads of departments are not free from this confusion against the backdrop of speculation about the status of Hyderabad – whether it will be made the common capital till a new one is built or declared a Union Territory.
Lower-rung employees spent the day discussing this issue and their own career prospects. Some officers said the Secretariat and other several State-level offices in Hyderabad will have to be shared till alternative arrangements are made.
In that case, the nine existing large buildings on the Secretariat premises will have to be distributed between the two States. The outcome will be more interesting because the Chief Ministers of both States will function from same premises. One officer said he was “scared” to talk about the future.
