Telangana Congress MPs seek clarity on statehood issue

May 08, 2013 04:01 am | Updated June 08, 2016 06:51 am IST - HYDERABAD:

The Telangana Congress MPs urged the party leadership to give clarity on the stand it is expected to take on the demand for separate Telangana State.

The MPs made this request during their meeting with AICC general secretary State affairs in charge Ghulam Nabi Azad in New Delhi on Tuesday.

Mr. Azad convened a meeting of the State MPs for first hand information on the political situation in the State and the steps needed to strengthen the party in the run up to the general elections next year.

The meeting comes in the backdrop of proposed interaction of AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi with the State MPs on May 9 to discuss about the current political situation and party’s prospects. Mr. Azad, according to MPs, sought feedback from the members on the implementation of the welfare and development schemes and the ways to make delivery more effective.

Speaking to reporters later, MPs G. Vivekanand and S. Rajaiah said they appealed to Mr. Azad to keep the party’s promise on giving separate State failing which the party would suffer severe setback in the ensuing elections.

The Telangana MPs are likely to meet Mr. Azad on Wednesday too to impress upon him the need to take a clear stand on separate Telangana.
