Telangana: another YSR Congress MLA offers to quit

Close on the heels of Anantapur YSR Congress MLA B. Gurunath Reddy's resignation, another party MLA from the district, Kapu Ramachandra Reddy on Wednesday offered to quit if the Centre went ahead to carve out a separate Telangana state.

Mr. Ramachandra Reddy's offer came in response to "gherao" by local Samaikyandhra Joint Action Committee (JAC) members at his house in Rayadurgam demanding him to follow Mr. Gurunath Reddy's example. He gave away his resignation to the demonstrators asking them to forward it to the party office in Hyderabad.

In contrast, Mr. Gurunath Reddy faxed his resignation to the Assembly Speaker after a similar demonstration on Sunday.

In a related development, the lawyers of the Anantapur district decided to abstain from the courts until January 28 in protest against any move to bifurcate the state.
