Telagas set August deadline

June 13, 2016 12:00 am | Updated October 18, 2016 01:16 pm IST - SRIKAKULAM:

The Srikakulam Telaga Samkshema Sangham on Sunday asked the government to include the community in the list of Backward Classes along with Kapu, Ontari, and other castes.

Members of the community vowed to sacrifice their lives for the protection of the community’s interests saying that the caste was forcibly removed the list in 1968 without verifying its socioeconomic conditions. Association’s representatives Dwarapu Ajit Kumar, Savvana Umamaheswara Rao, and Ch. Raghunatha Rao indicated that the agitation would be intensified if the government failed to include the Telaga community in the list by August 2016.

While willing to accept the leadership of Kapu leader Mudragada Padmanabham, they said that he could not handle the issue properly.
