Technical glitch forces poll reschedule at 2 booths

March 30, 2014 08:48 pm | Updated November 16, 2021 10:28 pm IST - NANDIGAMA:

Polling was rescheduled in the 19th ward of Nandigama Nagara Panchayat in Krishna District on Sunday following a technical glitch. As many as 1,395 people could not vote at two polling booths in the ward, as the official voter list did not have their names on it.

Meanwhile, officials confessed to their failure to allot polling booths to these voters. According to them, a total of 611 voters under the Hanumanthupalem polling booth were to cast vote in another polling booth at Ana Sagaram in the same ward. Conversely, 784 voters at the Ana Sagaram polling booth were to vote at the Hanumanthupalem booth.

As the voters of the two booths were not allowed to caste vote, Krishna District Collector M. Raghunandan Rao made special transportation arrangements for them, but in vain. “It was a technical error on the part of the polling staff. The voter list did not match with the voter details in the two booths. However, the polling in the 19th ward will be held on April 1,” Returning Officer P. Palla Rao said.
