The Cyberabad police were on tenterhooks on Thursday morning when they received a message that an unidentified person had ‘kidnapped’ a woman software engineer from Raidurgam in her car.

But, the alleged ‘abductor’ on learning that the police were chasing the car, forced the woman, who was driving the car, to stop the vehicle on the Outer Ring Road (ORR) near Himayathsagar and ran away, said DCP Madhapur Kanti Rana Tata.

The techie from Raidurgam who got into her Maruti Swift car after visiting a temple was startled to notice a person on the rear seat. When she tried to raise an alarm, he requested her to drop him on the ORR near Himayathsagar as he had to attend some urgent work.

Sensing something amiss, the woman managed to send a message to her friend, who immediately alerted the police, who immediately swung into action and flashed a message to the patrolling vehicles on the ORR.

But even before the patrol vehicles could trace the car, the kidnapper realising that the police were chasing the car, directed the woman to stop the vehicle and even before she could stop, got out and escaped.

“We are trying to examine the veracity of the techie’s claim. CCTV footage will also be examined. We are also planning to send her for medical examination and if needed, will also book a case against the abductor,” said a senior police official.
