The mortal remains of former national president of Bharatiya Janata Party Bangaru Laxman were consigned to flames here on Sunday afternoon. Party leaders, cadres, relatives and friends bid him a tearful farewell at the Punjagutta crematorium.

There was a heavy downpour that lasted well over an hour and stopped just before the last rites began.

Among those present were L.K. Advani, M. Venkaiah Naidu, Prakash Javadekar, national general secretary Ramlal and national vice-president Bandaru Dattatreya. Addressing the gathering, Mr. Advani recalled Laxman’s contribution to society as a trade unionist and to the BJP in several positions he held within the party.
