The Telugu Desam (TDP) and Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) parties have criticised the State government on the issue of release of water to the Krishna Delta from Nagarjunasagar project, though for divergent reasons.
Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, senior leader of TDP Kodela Sivaprasada Rao said the government was creating new problems by denying water from the Nagarjunasagar even to raise paddy nurseries by the Delta farmers. “The system is established for over 150 years and the riparian rights of other regions will not be violated if water is given to Delta,” he stated.
He wondered why the government was releasing water at nights just because a handful of people were protesting it. There were instances in the past when water was released to Delta even when the level was 497 feet in Nagarjunasagar, but the water level now was 511.4 feet, the former agriculture minister said.
Meanwhile in a statement issued here, TRS legislator T. Harish Rao said his party was not against releasing water to the Delta but it should not be done at the cost of keeping Telangana people thirsty. He demanded that TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu and YSR Congress party leader Y.S. Vijayamma respond on the issue.
