Tourism Minister Bhuma Akhila Priya is confident that the TDP will win the Nandyal by-election with a thumping majority of over 30,000 votes. Addressing the media here on Saturday, Ms. Priya said she was bewildered by the decision of the YSR Congress to contest the election.

“Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is doing his best to fulfil the promises made by my father Bhuma Nagi Reddy for the people of Nandyal. The TDP government has accorded top priority for the constituency by sanctioning ₹1,200 crore for various developmental works. People of the constituency have a lot of faith in the TDP and will lead the party to victory,” the Minister said. The by-election was necessitated following the death of Nagi Reddy on March 12.

Referring to the YSRC staying away from the Assembly meeting convened to condole the demise of Nagi Reddy, the Minister said: “When YSRC president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy was jailed, we stood by his mother Vijayamma and the family during the troubled times. Now, just because we changed the party, it doesn’t mean that the long personal equations should be forgotten.”

Refuting reports of family dispute, she said: “We are a family with a political background and have been brought up in that atmosphere. When my paternal uncle died, the ticket was not given to his wife but to his brother Nagi Reddy.”
