TDP promises all-round development

Telugu Desam Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu on Monday night sounded positive on the ongoing deliberations with the Bharatiya Janata Party on the prospects of forging an alliance for the forthcoming elections. He released party manifestoes for both Telangana and the successor State of Andhra Pradesh.

Alliance issue

Though Mr. Naidu refused to hazard a guess on the possible number of seats that could amicably resolve the deadlock between the two parties, he said the ongoing discussions would focus more on an acceptable solution which could put the TDP and the BJP in a win-win situation. The alliance should be strong and provide stable governments at the State and Centre. “The TDP is, however, unwilling to accept any proposal that can weaken the party as this will, in turn, weaken the Telugu speaking people,” he asserted.

Mr. Naidu later released separate manifestoes for Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The manifestoes, focussing on fulfilling the assurances he made during his marathon Padayatra, were heavily tilted towards welfare with schemes covering agriculture, employment, women safety and other aspects. Development of infrastructure in Seemandhra region in the form of industrial clusters and harnessing the infrastructure in Telangana for making it a research hub too formed part of the manifestoes. Some of the major schemes contemplated by the TDP included harnessing solar energy for agriculture pumpsets giving heavy concessions, special budget for agri and allied sectors, prioritisation of irrigation projects, free education from KG to post graduation for poor and low income group students, comprehensive health scheme named after party founder N.T. Rama Rao and closure of belt shops, liquor outlets that had become rampant in all parts of the State.

Mr. Naidu said his party had a vision and finances would not become a constraint in fulfilling the assurances made by the TDP.
