Officials seek protection against politicians
Kadapa police on Sunday arrested Telugu Desam Party leader and former Pulivendula market committee chairman P. Parthasarathi Reddy, who is the main accused in a case of threatening Kadapa RDO V. Veerabrahmam and his family members on November 3, Kadapa District Revenue Services Association president B. Vedanayakam announced on Sunday.
Thanking District Collector V. Anil Kumar and Superintendent of Police Manish Kumar Sinha for arresting the accused, Mr. Vedanayakam, Kadapa tahsildar Srinivasulu and other tahsildars said in a press conference in the Kadapa Collectorate that the proposed “work to rule” stir by the association from Monday was withdrawn in view of the arrest.
They condemned threats and attacks on revenue officials by political leaders to further their political interests and for establishing their supremacy.
They alleged that when a leader showered abuses and attacked an RDO-level officer at Jammalamadugu in the past, the then DSP had remained a silent spectator. Police should not be complacent but discharge their duties in an unbiased manner when officials were targeted by political leaders, either of the ruling party or Opposition, as everybody was equal before law, they said.
They demanded that an armed police picket with BSF or Armed Reserve be posted at all tahsildar offices and gunmen be provided to sub-divisional magistrates and said that the association would write a letter to the government regarding the proposed demands.
They thanked JAC employees, teachers and workers and other associations who had extended their support to the association.
Meanwhile, Kadapa RDO V. Veerabrahmam rebutted Mr. Parthasarathy Reddy’s charges that he had asked for money in a deal and that part payment had already been made.
