The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) on Saturday launched a counter-attack on Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) president K. Chandrasekhar Rao for his demand to pass a resolution supporting the formation of Telangana at the party’s impending Mahanadu. TDP Polit Bureau member and MP Ramesh Rathod and district president G. Nagesh questioned the TRS president’s sobriety when he made this demand.

At a well-attended district Mahanadu organised here, the TDP leaders said theirs was actually the first among political parties to support the formation of Telangana. “Our party was the first to give a letter to this effect,” the MP claimed.

“Where was KCR (who is also a Lok Sabha MP) when I raised the demand for moving a Bill for Telangana in Parliament,” he questioned. “He was taking rest at his farm house,” he said in reply to his own question.

Babli issue

Questioning the TRS chief’s love for Telangana, the TDP leaders pointed out his silence when Babli project had become a burning issue. The TDP had agitated for stopping the project and party leaders had even gone to jail for it, they said.

The Congress government in the State and Centre also came in for criticism at the district Mahanadu. Mr. Nagesh demanded the reimbursement of the Rs. 25,000 crore allocated for the SC, ST sub-plan which was allegedly diverted by the government.

Speakers urged cadres to work in a united manner for the forthcoming elections. Nizamabad: Staff Reporter adds: The TDP cadres strongly condemned TRS chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s ‘derogatory’ remarks against their leader N. Chandrababu Naidu at Banswada and burnt his effigy at several places.

Speaking to reporters TDP MLC, Arkala Narsa Reddy, said that Chandrasekhar Rao was talking “rubbish” ignoring decency and decorum in politics. If he failed to keep his tongue under control he would have to face public wrath, said Narsa Reddy.

The TDP workers, meanwhile, burnt the effigy of Chandrasekhar Rao at Yellareddi, Banswada and other places in the district. Mr. Rao in his public address reportedly said that people would not even pour piss let alone votes if Chandrababu goes on padayatra.
