TDP has reneged on its debt waiver promise: Jagan

February 24, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:49 am IST - ANANTAPUR:

YSR Congress president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy on Monday alleged that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu led State government had reneged on its promise of debt waiver made to the people before the elections.

Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy, who is on a five-day 'Rythu Bharosa Yatra' in the district to console the families of those farmers and weavers who committed suicide unable to bear the financial duress, met the families of two such farmers before he addressed a meeting with SHG (Self Help Groups) women at Kothacheruvu mandal headquarters.

“What amount of loan did each member in your group take? Did you not pay your loan for a few months heeding to the promise of Mr. Chandrababu Naidu? What was Mr. Naidu's promise then and what is happening with you now?,” questioned Mr Jagan seeking to drive home the point that the level of unhappiness among women folk in the district was high and that the State government had indeed reneged in its promise of waiver. “We had taken Rs. 50,000 each. We didn't pay for five months and voted for Mr. Chandrababu Naidu as he promised to waive the loans. When we tell the bankers that the government will waive the loan, they tell us that it was the bank that had given the loan and not Mr. Chandrababu Naidu and hence, we need to pay along with interest and penalty,” complained Hussain Bi, a resident of Kothacheruvu mandal headquarters.

Responding to many such women's problems, Mr Jaganmohan Reddy said the YSRC would fight on their behalf and try to ensure that the government kept its promises. "But, Mr. Chandrababu Naidu continues to lie,” said Mr Reddy. Mr Reddy was accompanied by former Anantapur MP Ananta Venkatrami Reddy and former Anantapur MLA B. Gurunath Reddy.
