The YSR Congress on Sunday accused the TDP of letting down people on its poll promises and challenged Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s son and IT Minister N. Lokesh to go in for a CBI inquiry into the Opposition charges if he had faith in his own government. Addressing the district plenary of the party, former Minister and party State general secretary K. Pardhasaradhi said Mr. Naidu had failed to fulfil promises made on waiver of farm, DWCRA and weaver loans, closure of belt shops and providing drinking water under NTR Jalasiri soon after his assuming power.
He alleged that there were big people behind the land scandals in Visakhapatnam, and reiterated his party’s demand for a CBI inquiry.
The government did not even have the courage to allow SIT to look into all the land-related complaints in the district, Mr. Pardhasaradhi, in charge for the plenary, said. He refuted the charge of Mr. Naidu that the YSR Congress was obstructing new capital construction and the aqua park in West Godavari district. The party was only objecting to the manner in which he was going about it and his inability to get funds from the Centre for the Capital as per the Act. Former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ordered a CBI inquiry on the Opposition charges during his term, he recalled. During the TDP rule even the number of commodities issued through the PDS was cut, he said.
The only way of living up to Rajasekhara Reddy’s wishes was to make YSRC president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy the Chief Minister in the 2019 elections, he said.
Former Minister B. Satyanarayana said tampering of land records was unprecedented. Exuding confidence that the YSRC would come to power in 2019, he said all those involved would be tried in the “people’s court.” Paderu MLA Giddi Eswari lambasted Payakaraopeta MLA V. Anitha’s stand on Dalits, women, and teachers. She challenged Araku MLA K. Sarveswara Rao and MP Kottapalli Gita to resign and seek fresh mandate.
Party district president Gudivada Amarnath alleged that Ministers from the district were preoccupied with their own affairs and the demand for declaring health emergency in the Agency fell on deaf ears.
