TDP finalises Telangana panel

L. Ramana, R. Krishnaiah and Ravula Chandrasekhar Reddy to lead panels

March 25, 2014 10:44 am | Updated November 27, 2021 06:54 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

The Telangana committee of Telugu Desam Party is likely to be announced in a day or two amid reports of dissatisfaction from a section of leaders from the Scheduled Castes.

TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu, who conducted an elaborate exercise on the panel, is said to have favoured constitution of a steering committee that will be assisted by a campaign committee and a manifesto committee. The decision to form three panels was aimed at accommodating all the important leaders of the party from Telangana.

Accordingly, Jagtyal MLA L. Ramana is tipped to lead the steering committee as chairman and Errabelli Dayakar Rao will be its working president. BC Welfare Association president R. Krishnaiah who is likely to make a formal entry into the TDP soon is tipped to take over as campaign committee chairman. Another senior leader Ravula Chandrasekhar Reddy is said to have been entrusted with responsibilities of the manifesto committee as its chairman.

The selection of leaders for the important panels is well in line with the party’s decision to give priority to backward classes in the Telangana region. Mr. Naidu went ahead in announcing that a person from the BC communities would be made the Chief Minister of Telangana when the party comes to power.

The three panels will get support from senior leaders including Tummala Nageswara Rao, Nama Nageswara Rao, Ramesh Rathod, Mandava Venkateswara Rao, Revuri Prakash Reddy, Talasani Srinivas Yadav, Uma Madhav Reddy and T. Devender Goud. There is no clarity as to whether these leaders will be assigned responsibilities in specific panels or they would be part of all the three committees.

Though Mr. Naidu was expected to announce the constitution of the committee a couple of days ago, he put the decision on hold as senior leader Motkupalli Narsimhulu has been insisting that he be given an important responsibility. Mr. Narsimhulu has made no secret of his displeasure with the party leadership when he was denied Rajya Sabha berth. He had decided to keep off from the party initially, but was pacified by senior Telangana leaders with an assurance that he would be given an important responsibility soon.

According to sources, the TDP president is likely to make a formal announcement on the committee during his Praja Garjana meeting slated in Mahabubnagar district on Tuesday.
