In an unsparing attack on his rival parties, YSR Congress Party president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy called upon people to reject political parties which make false promises keeping electoral victory in mind.
Addressing a public meeting at Atmakur near here on Sunday, Mr. Reddy charged TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu with desperately doling out a string of promises in the ongoing election campaign.
“It’s Mr. Naidu who encouraged belt shops in every corner of the State during his regime and he did little for improving the living conditions of the people when he was in power,” he charged.
Underlining the need for credibility in politics, Mr. Reddy appealed to people to vote for those who work for the welfare and well-being of the poor. He recalled how former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy implemented many programmes to meet the needs and aspirations of the poorer sections.
Mr. Reddy said that in 15 days, the voters would have the power to change the fate of the political parties and leaders. They should use this opportunity to elect those who had credibility and a track record in welfare programmes, he added.
Blaming Chandrababu Naidu on various issues, Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy said that during his regime, he ignored the demand for prohibition saying that it would lead to the bankruptcy of State exchequer. Now, he says that he would give a job in each family and that 3.5 crore jobs would be provided, he added.
