Sensing that majority of farmers in upland villages are ready part with their lands under the proposed land pooling system, TDP senior leaders have begun visiting the villages and holding meetings with the ryots to facilitate the process.

On Tuesday, Speaker Kodela Siva Prasada Rao, along with Tadikonda MLA Tenali Sravan Kumar and Guntur MLA M. Venugopala Reddy visited Dondapadu village to elicit opinions of farmers on the land pooling system.

Farmers in the villages abutting the Krishna river continue to remain defiant over the issue. They told the local MLA that they would not part with the land. The MLA who visited Abbarajupalem and Borupalem villages faced a volley of queries from farmers, most of them cultivating neem on the river bed.

“I am getting a lease amount of Rs.80,000 per year. The government should pay a one-time lease amount of Rs.8.5 lakh, if it wants to acquire the land,” Kancharla Harnath Chowdary”, a farmer said.

Dr. Rao told the farmers that the government had selected the region due to proximity to the river and the move would attract investments for the development of the capital. Appealing to the farmers to repose faith in Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Dr. Rao said that farmers in this region would be benefited the development of capital city.

Tadikonda MLA T. Sravan Kumar said construction of a capital region would benefit the people belonging to SC/ST communities as well, since they amounted to 40 per cent of the population of the reserved constituency.
