Krishna district Collector B. Lakshmikantam suspended Jaggyyapeta tahsildar Chandrasekhar Naik on Sunday for transporting sand from Krishna district to Telangana illegally.

Mr. Lakshmikantam told The Hindu that Mr. Naik’s action amounted to violation of the State sand policy. Mr. Naik was accused of transporting the sand in two lorries that were seized by the police on September 13 at Mukthyala inter-State check-post. Mr. Naik reportedly produced orders to the police to secure release of the lorries.

A departmental investigation is on in the case, according to the Vijayawada Sub-Collector’s office.

It is alleged that the sand was diverted to facilitate construction of Mr. Naik’s house in Telangana.
