Health Minister Kamineni Srinivas has promised steps to develop the Government Hospital at Rajampet and Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS) in Tirupati.
Speaking after unveiling a plaque after laying the foundation stone for a trauma centre with an outlay of Rs. 1.50 crore on the Government Hospital premises at Rajampet on Tuesday, the Minister promised upgrading of the 50-bed hospital into a 100-bed facility. He also directed the authorities to prepare a master plan for the development of the hospital.
“Paucity of doctors and para-medical staff at government hospitals is impeding services to people,” Dr. Srinivas said and promised steps to address staff shortage and improve drinking water supply, sanitation and drainage system at all hospitals. “People should be motivated to patronise government hospitals through provision of prompt and proper treatment on par with private hospitals,” he said.
Government Whip Meda Mallikarjuna Reddy said the 100-year-old Rajampet Government Hospital lacked the requisite equipment and facilities. Stating that the trauma centre was a long-standing demand, he called for upgrading the hospital into a 100-bed one and the expeditious completion of the out-patient block.
The Minister and Whip were felicitated on the occasion. Rajampet RDO Prabhakar Pillai, Hospital Superintendent Vijay Kumar, BJP leaders A. Harinath Reddy and P. Ramesh Naidu, TDP district mahila president P. Kusuma Kumari and Rajampet mandal president Rajeswari Reddy were present.
