Health Minister Kamineni Srinivas on Tuesday inaugurated a patient safety initiative at Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS). The website, highlighting four domains linked to patient-centred care and accountability of health systems -- Code Blue, Never Events, Healthcare Associated Infections (HAI) and Biomedical Equipment Performance List, was unveiled by Mr. Srinivas. It would be regularly updated for medical professionals and the public.
Interacting with the media, Mr. Srinivas opined that accountability, in addition to quality and patient safety measures, would promote transparency and usher in a change in healthcare systems. “These standard protocols are quite important as families put their trust in the doctors [and hospitals] to save their loved ones. We have to put a patient’s need before anything and offer value-added care,” he asserted. Mr. Srinivas lauded the efforts of the SVIMS management in introducing such innovations and remarked that they would try to follow/implement the same in government hospitals across the State. He further elucidated on the four domains and released a handbook on ‘Anti Microbial Stewardship Pocket Guide’. SVIMS Director and Vice-Chancellor T.S. Ravikumar termed it as a ‘red-letter day’ for SVIMS and spoke on how they would carry on with the implementation of the novel initiatives.
