The suspense over initiating disciplinary action against senior Congress leader J.C. Diwakar Reddy for his remarks against Congress president Sonia Gandhi continues.

Mr. Reddy had asked Ms. Gandhi to step down and give opportunity to others following which AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh sent a letter to PCC chief Botcha Satyanarayana asking him to seek an explanation from Mr. Reddy.

Mr. Satyanarayana immediately referred the matter to the disciplinary action committee of the APCC which, however, tossed the ball back to him on the ground that Mr. Diwakar Reddy was an AICC member.

‘Show cause notice issued’

When approached by the reporters in New Delhi on Thursday, Mr. Singh confirmed that a show cause notice had been issued to Mr. Diwakar Reddy and his explanation was awaited. He, however, refuted the charge that Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy too had defied Ms. Gandhi or gone against the party line. On his part, Mr. Diwakar Reddy said he did not receive any show cause notice from the party and clarified that he wanted Ms. Sonia Gandhi to give way for others in view of her health condition. “I want to stay in the Congress party, but a section of leaders want me to go. It is painful to leave the party to which we are loyal since three generations,” he said.

Challenge to Botcha

It was apparent that his target was Mr. Botcha Satyanarayana when he said, “Let Mr. Botcha contest from Tadipatri”.
