The II town police have unravelled the mystery behind the death of B. Ramu (29), an employee of Mylan Pharma in Poosapatirega mandal, and arrested Rayi Ramesh, a worker of a medical shop at Narasipatnam and Agraharapu Kondala Rao, a hired goon.

At a media conference on Saturday, Vizianagaram DSP S. Srinivasa Rao and II-Town SI Krishna Kishore said that the police recovered body of Ramu and his two-wheeler from Neelapucheruvu at Dasannapeta on November 15, presuming it as an accidental death. However, they began investigation with the help of the call details of Ramu from his cellphone.

Ramu, a native of Veeravaram in East Godavari district, married Mahalakshmi of Narasipatnam, reportedly against her wish, in February this year and they had been living in a house at Dasannapeta since then.

Investigation revealed that the last phone call made to Ramu by Rayi Ramesh, maternal uncle of Mahalakshmi, and police picked him up for interrogation. The DSP said that prior to marriage; Mahalaskhmi and Ramesh were having an affair which she continued even after marriage. When Ramu came to know of it, Mahalakshmi deserted Ramu and left for her native place.

Irked by this, Ramesh hired one Kondala Rao for Rs. 10,000 to eliminate Ramu. On the evening of November 14, Ramesh invited Ramu for a party at FCI warehouse. After Ramu was fully drunk, the duo strangulated him with a towel, which caused Ramu’s death. The duo then carried Ramu’s body on his two-wheeler and dumped it at Neelapucheru. They also abandoned the vehicle there. The DSP said police were also investigating whether or not Mahalakshmi was involved in the murder.
