Surveillance teams mooted for dengue-hit mandals

July 20, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:48 am IST - CHITTOOR:

Collector Siddharth Jain on Sunday directed the District Medical and Health Officer (DM &HO) to chalk out an action plan at the earliest to curb the growing cases of dengue in the district.

So far, as many as 130 positive cases have been reported from various hospitals, while 150 patients more from the district are said to be undergoing treatment in the CMC Hospital at Vellore in Tamil Nadu and five notified hospitals in Bengaluru.

During an emergency meeting with DM&HO K. Koteswari and District Malaria Officer P. Dosa Reddy here on Sunday, the Collector instructed them to send surveillance teams to all the vulnerable western mandals, apart from destroying larval formation and removing water stagnation. It was brought to the notice of the Collector that most of the cases in the western mandals preferred to go to Bengaluru owing to its proximity than approaching the SVRR Hospital in Tirupati, which is equipped with the facilities for diagnosis and treatment of dengue.

The DM&HO said all the Medical Officers should compulsorily adhere to the working hours in the rural health centres, besides attending to the emergency cases round-the-clock. “Dereliction of duties by the medical and paramedical staff will be viewed seriously,” she said.

Meanwhile, a medical team has left for Bengaluru to ascertain the number of dengue patients from the district admitted to the hospitals.
