Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu sought the cooperation of the five crore people of Andhra Pradesh (A.P.) and all those living abroad for his ‘dharma porata deeksha’ on April 19.
In an open letter to the public on its eve, Mr. Naidu reiterated that he was asking the Central government to implement the A.P. Reorganization Act (APRA) and fulfil the promises made by the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in Parliament.
Six promises
“The Central government has the responsibility to States. It is supposed to compensate the loss incurred by A.P. on account of bifurcation,” he asserted.
The CM recalled that Dr. Manmohan Singh had given a statement containing six promises at the time of getting the A.P. Reorganization Bill, 2014, ratified by the Rajya Sabha. These promises include SCS, revenue deficit financing and a special package for the backward districts on the lines of the assistance to Koraput-Bolangir-Kalahandi region in Odisha.
