Union Minister Sujana asked to appear in HC

April 13, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:48 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Justice Raja Elango of Hyderabad High Court on Tuesday made it clear that Sujana Chowdary, Union Minister accused in case filed by Mauritius Commercial Bank, shall appear before the concerned court on May 5 and the warrants against him will be recalled. The Minister need not appear before the court till final trial unless his presence is necessary as per the procedure.

The judge was passing these orders in a petition filed by the Minister challenging the initiation of criminal case. He contended that this is purely civil in nature and criminal procedure code cannot be invoked. He was not associated with the regular affairs of the company which is allegedly due money to the bank. He lamented that warrants have been issued and requested the warrants may be recalled. The judge stayed the execution of warrants and directed him to appear in court once.
