Sub-station for Chandrababu Naidu's residence

The A.P Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (AP-SPDCL) is making arrangements for constructing a sub-station of 8 MVA-capacity to exclusively cater to the Chief Minister’s residence on the Krishna river bank near Tadepalli in Guntur District.

Officials of the southern DISCOM have pegged its cost at Rs. 3.50 crore and took up the proposal with APSPDCL Chairman and Managing Director H.Y. Dora.

He instructed the APSPDCL officials of both Krishna and Guntur districts to make necessary arrangements for the sub-station, which will be an outdoor one due to ample space available at the proposed location.

According to official sources, the sub-station will also meet the power requirement during the Krishna Pushkaram and steps were taken for its construction at the earliest.

The civil works have already been entrusted to a contractor and the sub-station was expected to start taking a tangible shape within a few weeks.

Officials are examining the possibility of laying underground cables while being wary of flooding during peak monsoon season. They are inspecting topography to finalize the technicalities.

Meanwhile, a technical problem delayed commissioning of the indoor sub-station on the Museum Road which is meant to exclusively supply power to the Chief Minister’s (CM) camp office.

It is expected to be ready by the first week of September. This is one of the several sub-stations proposed to be built indoor in Vijayawada to minimize the requirement of land which has become a precious commodity in the region.

While the power infrastructure is in the process of augmentation, a suitable building is being scouted for the residence of Ajay Jain, Secretary of Energy Department and CRDA. It is most likely to be in close proximity to the CM's camp office.

Mr. Jain will be one of the first Secretary-level officers to shift to Vijayawada and stay for at least five days a week in the city.
