With shortage of doctors projected at a whopping six lakh in the next one decade, a city hospital organised a hospital visit for schoolchildren with a view to kindle interest in them in the medical profession.

“The country with a burgeoning population needs more specialists and super-specialists,” said Sanghamitra Hospital managing director Dr. D. Tirumala Reddy.

“Hence, we need to create interest among children in the noble profession,” he added after giving a pep talk to students of Akshara School here as part of the Corporate Social Responsibility initiative of the hospital.

Resident medical officer (RMO) Dr. M. Ramachandra Rao explained to students the working of the Computed Tomography (CT) equipment on the occasion.

“Nowadays, doctors are getting good remuneration, and the profession has gained glamour of late,” the RMO added.
