The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced in its new format tested students’ calibre with tricky and complex questions and multiple correct answers. Even the IIT trainers say the pattern was difficult and papers lengthy. The test held for the top 1.5 lakh students who cleared the JEE Main was conducted in Hyderabad and Warangal in Telangana and Visakhapatnam, Nellore and Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh. These are vying for nearly 10,000 seats in 16 IITs and the Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad.
Students said that Chemistry was relatively easy, but Physics and Mathematics were tricky and lengthy and some of them failed to attempt all the questions. Ajay Antony, course director at TIME, said that students found the format difficult as there were multiple correct answers for several questions and negative marking discouraged them from taking risks. There were 10 versions of the paper.
Srikanth, director of Delta Academy, said that negative marks were increased this time.
