Students of Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering and Technology showcased their talent by designing an eco-friendly car named ‘Vidyut Car’. As many as 12 students designed the ‘Vidyut Car’ which runs up to 180 km at a stretch on a single charge.
According to college principal M. Govinda Raju, the students used 48 watts charging motor instead of engine to operate the car.
The battery has to be charged for eight hours and it is sufficient to cover 180 km. The cost of electric consumption is only Rs. 30. The weight of the car is around 400 kg and five people can travel in the vehicle.
“Designing electric car is a challenge since everything including brake system should be changed since safety of passengers is very important,” said Dr. Govinda Raju. The project was undertaken by the students of electrical and electronics engineering B. Sai Shankar, Ch. Kurma Rao, K. Chaitanya Kumar, S. Suresh, P.Satya Rao, K. Manikanta, P.Siva Krishna and others who spent almost six months under the supervision of faculty members N.V.A. Ravikumar and Avinash to make the car.
